We r in otavallo with Internet access hence the slew of differed postings. There is still much to tell from our 5 am birding to our insane tubing. However it looked like the text from mari's cute zipping pictue didn't go through so here it is.

Zipping day...
We began our stay discovering that to get to the el Monte lodge you ride on a 2 person cable car across the river. Bags and all. So 2 by 2 we pulled each other and our bags across what a great way to begin our stay.
The lodge is beautiful. Huge but simple wooded cabañas with bug windows overlooking the cloud forest/jungle. It's still fairly cool so it is pleasant and not to buggy but it is wet! It's cloudy and misty all the time do we go through most of the day feeling pretty soggy.
We stared out with at quick bird walk followed by a yummy dinner and early bed. We had a 6:30am birding wakeup. Mindo is apparently a
Day 2 6:30 is an early start but we saw number of cool birds and it was fun.
After breakfast we set off to the zip lines. First we hiked up through the jungle on a very steep and narrow path. The hike was wet but gorgeous.
At the ridge we were able to walk along a road and continue the day's birding.
Next we arrive at the canopy zipping. 2 guides take us through the forest across 13 ziplines back and forth across plunging ravines. At times we are easily 300 feet, maybe more off the ground. The kids are ecstatic! I have to say I had a pretty good time too it was much more fun than I expected.
After zipping we took a taxi back. The kids enjoyed riding in the back of the pickup truck.
In the afternoon it rained. So we took it easy and rested up for our next day. A 5am departure to see one of ecuador's most famous birds. Cock-on-the-rock.
